Everybody seems to have their own system for rating web hosting companies. And most of those ratings are driven by profit. Too many websites set too many different web hosting companies at the top of their "Best Web Hosting" lists.

No wonder it's so hard to determine which web host is best for you. And it's no wonder that so many people become dissatisfied with the service they choose.

Many of the web hosting services you see advertised are absolutely terrible. It's easy to find horror stories regarding web hosts, even thought such companies were highly recommended.

I myself fell for the great advertising and high ratings of StartLogic, and suffered miserably for years. They even made it hard for me to move my sites to a different company. Their techical support was practically non-existant. Then to make it even worse, they moved their phone support to the Philippines. And that's becoming a common practice among many web hosting companies.

So how can you tell which web hosting companies are the best, and which ones are the worst?

The Better Business Bureau has a system that is based on how well businesses take care of their customers. Among other things, they consider how many complaints there are compared to the size of the company. And they consider how the companies handle complaints.

That's what's important. When I have a problem with my web host, I want it straightened out - NOW - not two or three weeks from now! I don't want to hear any excuses. I don't want to get the runaround. And I don't want to talk to someone who can't understand what the problem is, or doesn't know how to fix it.

But you find those problems with many web hosting companies. And the average "Top Ten" list advertises for at least one such company. Many of them have two or more listed!
